Looking for a quality fishing experience without spending your entire day on the water? Captain George Lamplugh and his crew at Reel Naughty Sportfishing have you covered with their top-rated 4-hour inshore trips running out of Ocean City, Maryland. These half-day adventures are perfect for families, first-timers, or seasoned anglers who want to maximize their fishing time while keeping schedules flexible. From May through November, you'll target some of the area's best-fighting species in the productive nearshore waters that make Ocean City a world-class fishing destination.
Your 4-hour trip kicks off with either a morning or afternoon departure, giving you the flexibility to plan around other vacation activities or family commitments. Captain George knows these Maryland waters like the back of his hand and will put you on fish whether you prefer the action of trolling or the steady bite of bottom fishing. The boat accommodates up to 6 guests, making it ideal for small groups who want personalized attention and plenty of room to fish comfortably. You'll head to proven nearshore spots where structure and currents create perfect feeding areas for bluefish, mackerel, sea bass, and flounder. The captain adjusts techniques based on conditions, season, and what's biting best that day. Keep in mind that fuel surcharges may apply if marina prices exceed $4 per gallon, but Captain George will fill you in on current rates when you book.
The beauty of this inshore trip lies in the variety of techniques you'll use to target different species. When conditions are right, trolling lets you cover water efficiently while targeting aggressive feeders like bluefish and mackerel. You'll pull lures through productive areas where baitfish congregate, and the strikes can be absolutely explosive. Bottom fishing, on the other hand, puts you right on top of structure where sea bass and flounder hang out. This technique requires more patience but often produces steady action and larger fish. Captain George reads the water, weather, and fish behavior to determine the best approach for your trip. The gear is provided, but feel free to bring your own rods if you have favorites. Either way, you'll learn proven techniques that work in these specific Maryland waters.

Summer flounder are the crown jewel of Ocean City's inshore fishery, and for good reason. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, lying buried in sandy bottoms near structure where they ambush unsuspecting baitfish. Flounder season peaks from late spring through early fall, with fish ranging from keeper-sized 18-inchers up to true doormat specimens pushing 5+ pounds. What makes flounder so exciting is their fighting style - they use that flat profile to their advantage, creating maximum resistance as they try to get back to the bottom. Plus, they're absolutely delicious on the dinner table, with sweet, flaky white meat that's perfect for any preparation.
Atlantic mackerel show up in huge schools during their spring and fall migrations, creating some of the fastest action you'll find in these waters. These silver bullets are built for speed, and when you hook into a school, it's not uncommon to have multiple lines screaming at once. They typically run 1-2 pounds but make up for size with pure aggression and numbers. Mackerel are excellent table fare when eaten fresh, with rich, oily meat that's perfect for grilling or smoking. The key is timing - when the schools move through, the bite can be absolutely red-hot for days at a time.
Sea bass are the bread and butter of Ocean City's bottom fishing scene, and these chunky fighters never disappoint. They love structure - wrecks, reefs, and rocky bottom where they can ambush prey and find shelter. Black sea bass are most active from late spring through fall, with the best fishing typically occurring in 30-80 feet of water. What anglers love about sea bass is their reliability - when you find them, they're usually willing to bite, and they fight hard for their size. A 2-3 pound sea bass will give you a solid account of itself, and the bigger ones can really test your drag. They're also fantastic eating, with firm white meat that holds up well to any cooking method.
Bluefish are the pit bulls of the inshore waters - aggressive, hard-fighting, and always ready for a scrap. These toothy predators travel in schools and feed with reckless abandon, often creating spectacular surface action as they slash through baitfish schools. Blues can range from snapper-sized fish perfect for kids to 10+ pound choppers that will test your tackle and technique. They're most active during the warmer months but can be caught throughout the season when conditions are right. The key with bluefish is using wire leaders to prevent bite-offs and being ready for their initial blistering runs. Fresh bluefish, when handled properly and cooked quickly, offers rich, flavorful meat that's excellent grilled or broiled.
Captain George and the Reel Naughty Sportfishing crew have built their reputation on putting guests on fish while providing a safe, enjoyable experience on the water. These 4-hour inshore trips offer the perfect balance of fishing action and time efficiency, letting you experience Ocean City's renowned fishery without committing to a full day.

Atlantic mackerel are speed demons with beautiful metallic-blue backs and wavy black stripes. These schooling fish average about a foot long and travel in massive groups that can stretch for miles. You'll find them in open water between 20-60 feet during spring and summer when they move close to shore. They're incredible fighters for their size - fast, aggressive, and they'll hit anything shiny. Plus they make outstanding table fare with rich, healthy meat. The action gets hot from May through July when schools push into our area chasing baitfish. Small spoons and sabiki rigs work great, but here's my tip: once you hook one, keep your line in the water. Where there's one mackerel, there's usually a hundred more.

Bluefish are pure aggression with razor-sharp teeth and an attitude to match. These silver-blue predators range from 2-15 pounds around here, with the bigger ones putting up serious fights. They roam open water and surf lines chasing schools of baitfish, creating those famous "bluefish blitzes" where the water boils with feeding fish. Best action runs May through October, especially during morning and evening when they're actively hunting. Guests love the non-stop action - when you find a school, it's fish after fish. They're also excellent eating when fresh, with rich, flaky meat. Pro tip: always use a wire leader because those teeth will cut through mono instantly. And watch your fingers when unhooking - they bite hard even in the boat.

Black sea bass are one of our most reliable targets around Ocean City. These chunky, dark-colored fish average about a foot and weigh 1-2 pounds, but we regularly see 3-4 pounders that really pull. They love hard bottom around wrecks, jetties, and reef structure in 20-80 feet. Spring through fall is prime time, especially May through October when they're actively feeding. What guests love is their aggressive nature - they'll hit almost anything and fight harder than their size suggests. Plus they're fantastic eating with firm, white meat. My local trick: drop a bucktail or small jig tipped with squid or clam right to the bottom near structure, then work it slow with short hops. They usually hit on the drop.

Summer flounder are the "chameleons of the sea" - these flatfish blend perfectly with sandy bottoms using their color-changing ability. Most run 15-20 inches, though we see some pushing 5+ pounds. They're ambush predators that bury in sand near structure, waiting for baitfish to swim by. Best action happens September through November when they move shallow to feed before heading offshore. Found in 10-40 feet around wrecks, channels, and drop-offs. What makes them special is the fight - they pull hard and make great table fare with sweet, flaky meat. My go-to trick: use a bucktail with a strip of squid and bounce it slow along the bottom. Keep that bait moving just above the sand.
