Shark Fishing: Ocean City's Ultimate Offshore Thrill

Ready for some serious shark action off the coast of Ocean City? Reel Naughty Sportfishing's 8-hour private charter is your ticket to hooking into some of the ocean's apex predators. We're talking Makos, Threshers, and more. This isn't your average fishing trip – it's an all-day adventure that'll test your skills and potentially land you the catch of a lifetime.

What to Expect on the Water

We'll cast off at 7 AM sharp, so grab your coffee and get ready for a full day on the Atlantic. This extended trip gives us plenty of time to reach the prime offshore spots where the big boys hang out. Captain George knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll put you on the fish. We're not messing around with small fry here – we're after the heavyweight champs of the sea. Expect a workout as you battle these powerful creatures, but don't worry, we've got top-notch gear to help you bring 'em in. Just a heads up: if fuel prices at the marina are over $4 a gallon, there might be an extra charge. Give the captain a shout for the latest info.

Shark Fishing 101

Offshore shark fishing is a whole different ballgame from your typical day on the bay. We'll be using heavy-duty rods and reels spooled with braided line that can handle the fight of a lifetime. Our go-to technique? Chumming and drift fishing with large baits. We'll set up a slick to attract the sharks, then drop our lines and wait for the action. When a shark takes the bait, hold on tight! These creatures can run hard and fast, so be ready for a battle that could last anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour. Don't worry if you're new to this – Captain George will walk you through every step, from setting the hook to playing the fish to safely landing it boatside for some epic photos before release.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Shortfin Mako Shark: These are the speedsters of the shark world, known to clock in at over 45 mph when they're really moving. Makos are prized for their acrobatic fights, often leaping clear out of the water when hooked. They're typically found in the warmer offshore waters during the summer months, weighing anywhere from 100 to over 1,000 pounds. Anglers love targeting Makos not just for their impressive size, but for the sheer adrenaline rush of battling these powerful, fast-swimming predators.

Thresher Shark: With their distinctive long tail fin (which can be as long as their body), Threshers are a unique catch. They use that tail like a whip to stun their prey, making them one of the most interesting sharks to target. Typically weighing between 200-500 pounds, Threshers put up a heck of a fight and are known for their endurance. They're usually found in slightly cooler waters than Makos, so we might encounter them in the spring or fall.

Blue Shark: While not our primary target, Blue Sharks are common in these waters and offer a great fight for their size. They're known for their beautiful, sleek blue coloration and can grow up to 400 pounds. Blues are curious creatures and often circle the boat, giving anglers a fantastic look at these ocean wanderers before we even drop a line.

Time to Book Your Spot

Listen, if you're after a fishing trip that'll get your heart pounding and your arms aching (in the best way possible), this is it. Our 8-hour shark fishing charter isn't for the faint of heart, but it's guaranteed to be a day you'll never forget. Whether you're a seasoned shark angler or looking to cross this off your bucket list, Captain George and the team at Reel Naughty Sportfishing have got you covered. We've got limited spots available, and they fill up fast, especially during peak season. So don't wait around – grab your crew (up to 6 people total) and lock in your date. Just remember, the deposit's non-refundable, so make sure you're committed to the cause. Trust me, once you feel that first run from a big shark, you'll be hooked for life. Let's get you out there and make some fishing memories that'll last a lifetime!

Shortfin Mako Shark

The shortfin mako is a true ocean speedster, clocking in at 30+ mph when chasing prey. These powerful sharks typically range from 6-10 feet long and 130-300 pounds, though monsters over 1,000 pounds have been caught. You'll find makos cruising near the surface in our offshore waters, especially during summer and fall when water temps are right. Anglers love targeting makos for their acrobatic jumps and hard-fighting spirit. Once hooked, be ready for anything - they've been known to leap 20 feet in the air and even jump into boats! The meat is also prized for its quality. To up your chances, we'll set up a chum slick and use fresh bait like bluefish or tuna. Heavy tackle is a must - 50-pound class gear at minimum. My top tip? Keep the boat moving slowly forward when you hook up. It helps tire them out faster and keeps them from circling to cut the line on the hull. Just be ready for an arm-burning battle with one of the ocean's apex predators.
